Revaluing CPT Code 93296 for Sustainable Remote Cardiac Monitoring
Cardiac remote monitoring is essential for proactive patient care, helping to prevent complications and reduce hospital visits. However, outdated reimbursement rates, particularly for CPT code 93296, no longer reflect the realities of modern remote monitoring practices.

Current reimbursement supports only 0.3 FTE per 1,000 patients, while actual needs are closer to 0.8 FTE, resulting in a 0.5 FTE gap.
Delayed responses to critical alerts and reduced patient education compromise care quality and patient engagement.
At Rhythm, we know that great technology needs strong support behind it. That’s why we’ve joined a national coalition pushing for the revaluation of CPT code 93296 — the reimbursement for the technical side of remote cardiac monitoring.
Today’s monitoring demands are far greater than when the code was first set. What was once a basic task now requires significant time, staffing, and oversight.
We’re advocating for CMS to update the inputs for CPT code 93296, increasing the reimbursement from $19.41 to $79.57. This isn’t about profit — it’s about ensuring clinics have the financial foundation to sustain safe, effective, and timely care.
Current reimbursement levels fund just 0.3 FTE per 1,000 patients, despite data showing that at least 0.8 FTE is required to manage the transmission volume and clinical coordination effectively. This staffing gap leads to delayed report reviews, slower patient follow-ups, and increased staff burnout. Our proposal addresses this by realigning payment with actual labor demands.
Without action, practices may be forced to reduce services, limit patient enrollment, or cut corners in monitoring quality. By securing appropriate reimbursement, we can protect patient safety, support equitable access, and ensure that remote monitoring continues to deliver on its full clinical promise.
Sustainable reimbursement means practices can confidently invest in the infrastructure, staffing, and training required to scale remote monitoring — opening the door to broader adoption, stronger outcomes, and more efficient care.
Support our efforts to align reimbursement with the demands of modern cardiac care. Together, we can ensure sustainable, high-quality remote monitoring for all patients.
